The US-China Green Energy Council (UCGEC, http://ucgec.org) is pleased to announce that the 2019 Seminar Series #1 “Smart Energy and Smart Village Forum: Challenges and Opportunities in US and China” will be held at 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm on March16, 2019 in San Jose. Registration link is coming soon. It is FREE for registered attendees but will be charged $20 after March 15th, and at the door.

The seminar will start first panel session “Smart Energy” with speakers from Microsoft Cities and GEIRI North America, State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC). Then follow with second panel session “Smart Village and Global Experience in China”, speakers from UCGEC and IEEE China Smart Village Committee, Partner of FoundersX Ventures and Student of Environmental Engineering Science, UC Berkeley.

During two panel discussions, distinguished speakers, including top executives and lead-ing professionals from Smart Energy Technology & Solution Providers, and Smart Village Initiator, Entrepreneurs and Young Volunteers, will share their experience and insights at the seminar.

There will also be networking opportunities. Light refreshments will be provided. Please mark your calendar and RSVP today as seats are limited!

Speaker Bios


Zhiwei Wang

President, GEIRI North America

Zhiwei Wang is President of GEIRI North America, a company registered in California. GEIRI North America, as a R&D branch of State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) operating in North America, undertakes research and development of power technologies and oversees technical collaborations in the business area.
Prior to this assignment in July 2015, Mr. Wang once served as President of State Grid US Representative Office in New York; President of State Grid Wuxi Electric Power Supply Company in Wuxi prefecture; and Deputy Chief Engineer of State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Company (JSEPC) in Nanjing.
Mr. Wang has abundant experience in power system planning and project development. He had served as Deputy Director and then Director of the Department of Development and Planning, JSEPC, more than a decade since 2001.
Mr. Wang obtained his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Engineering from Southeast University in 1988 and 1991, respectively, in Nanjing, China. He is now the Senior Member of IEEE.

 

Zhang, Xiaofeng 张晓枫

Xiaofeng serves as a Director & Executive for Marketing & Business Development, Product & Project Management with over 30 years’ experience in Renewable Energy, Electricity Markets & Electric Utility. She has worked with various global leading companies, such as International Marketing Director at Howard Industrial and JA Solar USA; Sr. Project Manager at Pacific Gas and Electric Company; Product Manager and China Marketing Manager at ABB Inc. Previously she worked with the Chinese Electric Power Research Institute (CEPRI) in Beijing, where her research project won a National Scientific Technology Award. She served as a panelist at various Smart Grid conference and a co-author of the book “Electricity Market Operation System”. She holds a BS and MS in Electrical Engineering, and was a PhD Candidate at the CEPRI.

Xiaofeng is an IEEE Senior Member, and Chair of IEEE PES China Smart Village Committee.

She is a Chairwoman of Silicon Valley Women (since 2013). She initiated the first “Smart Village China Program” with a donation of 15KW Solar system at a School in Sichuan China, in June, 2018.

She is the Executive Vice President and Board of Directors, US-China Green Energy Council (UCGEC); and has served as a Conference Chair of US-China Green Energy Summit since 2016.

 

Scott Mauvais

Director, Microsoft Cities

Scott Mauvais is the Director of Microsoft Cities where he works with local leaders to infuse technology into existing systems to make cities better places to live, learn, work, and innovate.

Scott has been at Microsoft 19 years. Most recently, he was the Director of the Microsoft Technology Center, an innovation lab where Microsoft’s top architects work hand-in-hand with Fortune 500 companies to envision, architect, and prove out solutions based on Microsoft’s newest technologies.

Prior to that, Scott worked for Microsoft Consulting Services where he ran early stage projects for customers in Microsoft's Early Adopter Program. He has written extensively for Microsoft Press and Ziff-Davis.

Scott serves on the national boards of Upwardly Global, City Innovate Foundation, and the Urban Age Institute and co-owns The WELL, the ground breaking online community founded in 1985.  When not working, Scott enjoys skiing in the winter, backpacking in the summer, and seeing—and photographing—as much live music as possible year-round.

 

Dr. Jun Tan

Power System Engineer, GEIRI North America, SGCC

Jun Tan received his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2017. He is currently a power system research engineer at Global Energy Interconnection Research Institute North America (GEIRI North America). His research interest include Power system modeling, simulation, analysis and optimization; Intelligent computing and game-theoretic analysis; Power distribution system and microgrids; Renewable energy integration; Power grid operation and planning in competitive electricity markets.

 

 

Professor Tom Kosnik

Partner, FoundersX Ventures

Tom works with startups in FoundersX Ventures portfolio, as well as other startups, global companies, and other organizations who partner with him to accelerate the development of the entrepreneurial ecosystems in Silicon Valley, and key cities in China, Singapore, and other ASEAN countries. He helps leaders in start-ups and global companies to pick the right new products and take them to market. He also helps them to acquire customers, recruit and develop great talent, raise money, and manage a portfolio of partnerships.

He is a consulting professor at National University of Singapore, as a member of the NUS Enterprise teaching team in Silicon Valley and in Singapore.

Tom is also co founder of Global Entrepreneurial Leadership Institute (GELI) based in San Francisco and helping 13 to 23 year old rising leaders on the Pacific Rim to discover their mission in life, and get the resources they need to achieve their dreams.

He is an Entrepreneur in Residence at Sapien Ventures in Sydney Australia, working with their portfolio companies across Asia Pacific.

Kosnik was an Adjunct Professor, Stanford Department of MS&E from 1990-2018, taught Marketing at Harvard Business School from 1985-89, and launched HBS’s Entrepreneurial Marketing course in 1995-97

He is the coauthor of a book entitled Gear Up: Test Your Business Model Potential and Plan your Path to Success, which is a practical framework to help you create new markets and disrupt existing markets.

 

Fang Cao

VP, US-China Green Energy Council
Chairman, Guangzhou Pooval Information Technology Co., Ltd.

Fang Cao is a Post-doctoral Research as Center for Electric Power in the University of Tennessee. She is presently concerning on: Conduct the situation awareness algorithm development and data analysis based on the wide-area FNET monitoring system; Conduct the dynamic performance evaluation of the large power system with the high penetration rate of renewable energy sources.

Previously she worked with China Southern Power Grid, CSG in GuangZhou. She was a project manager in the planning and operation model of electric vehicle charging facilities and the platform construction of electric vehicle charging for electric facilities in GuangZhou city.

Dr Cao is also the Chairman of Guangzhou Pooval Information Technology Co.,Ltd. and the Chairman of Pooval Hawkeye Technology Development Co., Ltd. and Vice President of the Us-China Green Energy Council(UCGEC). She has also been a visiting scholar at Stanford University two years ago.

 

Kelly Jiang

Environmental Engineering Science, UC Berkeley

As an under¬grad¬u¬ate Kelly was invited to work as a GSR to com¬pile data on decen¬tral¬ized renew¬able energy (DRE) in part¬ner¬ship with Power for All (P4All) as part of a larger effort to research and to build the case for uni¬ver¬sal elec¬tric¬ity access by 2025 through dis¬trib-uted renew¬able energy.  In this project Kelly is work¬ing with Dr. Rebekah Shirley and Pro-fes¬sor Dan Kam¬men of UC Berke¬ley Energy and Resources Group.

In the Spring of 2018 Kelly is also a Vis¬it¬ing Stu¬dent and mini-grid research stu¬dent at the State Key Lab¬o¬ra¬tory of Trans¬mis¬sion Equip¬ment and Sys¬tem Secu¬rity and New Tech-nol¬ogy at Chongqing Uni¬ver¬sity where she is super¬vised by Pro¬fes¬sor Minyou Chen of the School of Elec¬tri¬cal Engineering.

 

Sunny Chen

GEIRI North America, SGCC

Xi (Sunny) Chen received the Ph.D. from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and MSc from Kings College London, University of London, U.K., in 2008 and 2005, respectively. In 2009, he joined the State Grid Corporation of China, Beijing, China. Currently, he is the Director of the Development and Planning at GEIRI North America. He  He was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Science, Beijing, China. He was responsible for China's National Strategic Development Plan of the Internet of Things in the power system (the year 2010-2015). He has authored/co-authored 3 books, and over 60 journal and conference papers. His research interests include the internet of things, smart grids, electric vehicle, and complex networks.
